Decades of research demonstrate workplace well-being initiatives can deliver significant financial returns to organisations, supporting both employee health and business performance.
A comprehensive 2024 review by Deloitte analysed 26 studies and found an average return of nearly £4.70 for every £1 invested in wellbeing programmes, that’s a 470% ROI, largely driven by productivity improvements, reduced absenteeism, and lower healthcare costs (Deloitte, 2025). Supporting this, the Wellhub (2024) report showed that almost two-thirds of HR leaders observed at least a $2 return for every $1 spent, with greater employee engagement and retention as primary benefits (Wellhub, 2024; Allianz Care, 2025).
Longer-term case studies provide further evidence. Johnson & Johnson, for example, reported an ROI of around $2.71 for every $1 invested over a decade, primarily due to reduced health costs and higher employee productivity (HR Future, 2025). Reviews of workplace wellness programmes generally estimate a typical ROI range between $3 and $6 per $1 invested, with substantial reductions in absenteeism by up to 25%, lower healthcare utilisation costs, and improved workforce engagement and morale (Wellbeing People, 2025; SHRM, 2023; Macorva, 2024).
While some programmes show variable returns depending on implementation quality and organisational context, the consistent trend is clear, scientifically designed, accessible workplace well-being programmes are a sound investment that contribute to healthier employees, improved workplace culture, and stronger business outcomes.
